The Worst kind of Political Vendetta and Intimidation

Spokesperson: Dr. Abhishek Singhvi: He said that friends, I want to very briefly tell youth at this is one of the most bizarre things which we have seen in the last few days and today morning. The Delhi police’ notice of 16th March asked a 2-page-long list of questions from Shri Rahul Gandhi about his comments on 30th January in Jammu & Kashmir about women along the March who had come and complained to him about domestic violence, about molestation, about harassment at different parts and different times.

The questionnaire asks details of these women, places, dates, etc.

We will, of course, collect and collate all data and revert in the shortest time available but has it ever been true in India of 75 years that such kind of questions are asked about a political ‘abhiyan’, a political yatra from any other political party? It is the worst kind of pettiness.

Second, as we all know such campaigns involve a diverse cross-section of people… men, women and the grievances are listened to with sympathy and where possible, it is passed on to the people walking along or they are advised to take appropriate action.

I don’t think, any political leader in a campaign is expected to stop instantly and seek recourse to law on the basis of the several interactions. That is why we are very clear that smacks of the worst kind of political vendetta.

Fourthly, the Delhi police… which appears to suffer from a complete lack of jurisdiction… at least for the present till we collect the details… seems to have woken up at least 45 days after the 30th January only to sensationalize, to create a climate of fear and intimidation and the urgency is hyper now after having waited for 45 days.

This plums the depths of pettiness even by the dismal and abysmal standards of this vendetta… vindictive government. Sunday, March 19, 2023.
