State Reeling under Rain, Hailstorm, Inflation and Anti-Farmer Policies

Chandigarh: President, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Kumari Selja said that the farmers in the state were suffering due to rain and hailstorm, inflation and anti-farmer policies of the BJP-JJP government.

In a statement issued to the media on February 26, 2022, Kumari Selja said that farmers were on the verge of getting ruined due to damage caused to crops in two consecutive seasons. The maximum damage had been reported in Rewari, Mahendragarh, Sirsa, Bhiwani, Fatehabad and Charkhi Dadri districts.

In Ambala, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar districts, when potatoes and other vegetables got damaged, the farmers decided to sow sunflower crop, but, the sunflower seed, which was available at the rate of Rs. 1600 per acre last year had got up to Rs. 9,000 per acre this time. Despite complaints, the Agriculture Department did not take any action and the farmers were compelled to buy seeds in black. Kumari Selja said that the government should provide compensation to the farmers within 15 days by immediately conducting a special girdawari of the crops damaged.
