Senior Journalist, Shri Girish Nikam passed away
New Delhi: Senior Rajya Sabha TV journalist Shri Girish Nikam, 59, passed away on 7th November, 2016 in New Delhi. Girish complained of breathlessness immediately after recording The Big Picture, Rajya Sabha TV’s popular current affairs show. He was immediately rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, where he died of cardiac arrest.
A well-known presence in English TV journalism, Girish anchored The Big Picture programme ever since its inception. A
seasoned journalist, Girish started his career with Star of Mysore. He worked for various prestigious publications such as The Indian Express, India Today, Newstime, and Deccan Chronicle.
Girish Nikam’s understated style and rich content stood apart in the cacophony of prime time TV discussions. Based in New Delhi since 1995, he was also an excellent mentor to budding journalists. He taught reporting and current affairs at the Jagran Institute of Mass Communication in Noida for a brief period.
In a message Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has expressed profound sadness on the demise of Senior Journalist, Shri Girish Nikam. Remembering him as a versatile journalist, Smt. Gandhi said, he was committed to journalistic standards and ethics and stood apart by his dedication to the highest ethics of journalism. Expressing her solidarity with the family and friends of the bereaved, Smt. Gandhi hoped they find peace and strength in this hour of grief.
