Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi visited Muftis, offered condolences
AICC President Smt. Sonia Gandhi arrived in Srinagar to offer her condolences to family of Former Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Syed, at her official residence Gupkar, Srinagar on 10th January, 2016. Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi met PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and other familymembers. While offering condolences, Madam Gandhi sympathized with thebereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. In a message to Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi said “We deeply mourn the passing away of Mufti Mohd.
Sayeed Sahib, one of the esteemed and senior political leaders of our country. Mufti Sahib cut across party boundaries. He was beyond party affiliations. He belonged to everybody. He symbolized the very best of human values, caring, calm and compassionate under the greatest of pressures, reaching out to and engaging with everybody, bringing people together. Free of prejudice, he reflected the very best of Indian values rooted in a respect for diversity and anchored in tolerance and accommodation”. He was a fine administrator, committed to the welfare of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. As Chief Minister in 2002, he pledged himself to providing what he used to call “the healing touch”. He faced many challenges. But such was the force of his personality and such was the confidence that he evoked across different sections of society that he was able to confront them successfully and fulfill the promises he had made.
Mufti Sahib left us all too suddenly. But he will live in our individual and collective memories. He will live as an example of the finest composite traditions of Jammu and Kashmir and the country. On behalf of the Indian National Congress and on my own personal behalf I extend my heartfelt condolence Congress President was accompanied by General Secretary AICC incharge J&K Ambika Soni, JKPCC President G.A. Mir, Gulam Nabi Azad Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha. After offering condolences, Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi left for Delhi. In a message the Congress Vice-President, Shri Rahul Gandhi said, “I am extremely saddened to learn of the passing away of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Saab. My condolences to his family and supporters. A veteran politician, he had a long & distinguished political career. His loss will be deeply mourned in J&K and across the country”.
