Mahila Congress

The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Mahila Congress, under the leadership of AIMC President held a massive demonstration and dharna on 4th February against the local administration as Dhikkar Diwas in which about 2000 women participated. The gathering proceeded towards Chief Minister’s residence to do a Gherao and to seek speedy justice in all the cases related to atrocities against women. They presented a Memorandum to Hon’ble Governor of Chhattisgarh to this effect. They also met the mother of the victim.

District-wise Shivirs were organized by Smt. Sheetal Mahatre, President Mumbai Mahila Congress in North-Central, South-Central, North-West and NorthEast Districts of Mumbai on 19th & 20th February. AIMC President Smt. Shobha Oza was the Chief Guest in all the programs. All local leaders were present in the program held in their respective districts along with Smt. Monica Dias, Gen. Secy. AIMC & I/c Mumbai RMC.

On 13th February, an organizational meeting organized by Smt. Pushpa Kandwal, newly appointed President of Noida Mahila Congress and her committee was held in Noida, U.P. Dr. Shobhna Shah, General Secretary, AIMC & Incharge UP PMC, Smt. Anupama Rawat, Secretary, AIMC & Co-Incharge UP PMC and Smt. Pratima Singh, President, UP PMC addressed the meeting. Similar organizational Meetings were held in Ghaziabad and Meerut Districts which were addressed by Dr. Shobhna Shah, General Secretary, AIMC & Incharge UP PMC, Smt. Pratima Singh, President, UP PMC on 23rd & 24th February.   

A meeting of Tamil Nadu Mahila Congress was organized by newly appointed President Smt. Janseerani on 17th February. A meeting of Karraikal District Mahila Congress, Puduchery was organized by Smt. Premlatha, President, Puducherry TMC on 19th February. Both the meetings were addressed by Ms. Nagma Morarji, General Secretary, AIMC & I/C Tamil Nadu & Puduchery PMC.

On 7th February, a meeting of State Office Bearers, District & Block Presidents of Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress was organized by Ms. Shahnaz Yasmin Haque, President Assam PMC in Guwahati which was addressed by Smt. Barnali Dey Mohinta, Secretary, AIMC & I/c Assam PMC. They also Visited Dhekiajuli Assembly Constituency, District Sonitpur where a gathering of about 2000 Booth-level Mahila Congress functionaries was present. The meeting ended with Padyatra.

Smt. Shakuntala Rawat, President, Rajasthan PMC organized a Districtlevel Mahila Congress Convention in Ganganagar which was attended by about 1000 women. Dr. Veena Deswal, Secretary, AIMC & Co-incharge of Rajasthan PMC was present in the program. Smt. Sushila Negi, newly appointed President, Himachal PMC organized a meeting of recently elected women representatives in local governance on 3rd February which was attended by Smt. Talat Aziz, Secretary, AIMC & I/c HP PMC. Shri Sukhwinder Singh Sukkhu, President Himachal PCC was the Chief Guest of the program. 

Maharashtra PMC President Smt. Charulata Tokas attended a meeting of Nanded City & District Mahila Congress on 1st February. She also campaigned for Palghar Assembly Bi-Election on 4th to 6th February.  On 10th February, a meeting of Mahila Congress was held in Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune, Maharashtra which was addressed by Maharashtra PMC President. On 14th February, a Women Empowerment Convention was organized by Ratnagiri District Mahila Congress which was addressed by Shri Narayan Rane. An organizational meeting of Sindhudurg District Mahila Congress was attended by Smt. Charulata Tokas. A Beti Bachao March was organized by Maharashtra PMC in Navi Mumbai. Ms. Netta D’Souza, General Secretary, AIMC & Incharge also attended the March on 18th February 2016. On 24th February, Smt. Charulata Tokas addressed meetings in Wardha & Raigarh Districts.

Smt. Sonalben Patel, President Gujarat PMC organized Protest Marches across the State on 14th to 16th February, in protest against an acid attack on a girl from Mahesna, seeking speedy justice. Later, when the girl succumbed to her burn injuries, state-wide candle light vigils were held.

A Mahila Congress Convention was organized in Bokaro by Smt. Abha Sinha, President, Jharkhand PMC on 16th February in which Smt. Anita Ram, Secretary, AIMC & I/C Jharkhand PMC was present. Around 500 Mahila Congress workers attended the convention. 

Smt. Amita Bhushan, President Bihar Pradesh Mahila Congress organized a Protest Demonstration in Patna on 21st February against the NDA Government for its religious intolerance. Similar demonstrations were organized in other states also such as Gujarat, Uttrakhand etc.
