Farmers are in a very bad shape

Spokesperson: Shri P.L. Punia, MP: He said that today we shall putthe issue of farmers before you. This issue was also raised in boththe houses of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. Bythe way, the financial year is coming to an end and the harvestingperiod has started. This is a period when farmers, farm labourersare quite happy because he expects financial gains. The financialgain is just not for him alone but for all the country and the society. If the proper progress is there in the farm sector then the payingcapacity increases in the rural area. Industrial sector, productionsector and marketing sector are also affected. But in all of these, farmer is in a worst condition.

Government of India says that there is 6% growth rate in the farmsector and agriculture sector. But the fact is that from Kanyakumarito Kashmir and from Manipur to Maharashtra, the farmers arecommitting suicides. You can see that the farmers from Tamilnaduare sitting in dharna at the Jantar Mantar with the mortal remainsof their dead farmers.

There was lot of discussion on Minimum Support Price. In 2014,Modiji said that we will fix 50% profit for MSP cost. This wasalso mentioned in their manifesto. But since coming to power,34 months have passed and the Modi government has made noinitiative towards it, nor the making any assessment. Even theSupreme Court has aksed about the MSP cost which was to bebased on the Swaminathan Commission Report and what theyhave to say in this regard. Monday, 20th March, 2017
