Randeep Singh Surjewala, Incharge Communications AICC, has issued the following statement to the press today:-

Dr. Arun Sharma, Dean, N.S. Medical College, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh was found dead today in mysterious circumstances in a hotel in Delhi making him the 45th victim in a series of suspected deaths in Madhya Pradesh Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal i.e. Vyapam Scam. May we remind that his predecessor-dean of the same Medical College, Dr.  D.K. Skalle had also died in mysterious circumstances having been found burnt to death. Coming as it does on the heels of untimely, mysterious and tragic death of 38 years old Aaj Tak, India Today journalist, Shri Akshay Singh yesterday, who had gone to Indore, MP to investigate Vyapam; entire circumstances leading to a spate of deaths of people associated with Vyapam are deeply intriguing and totally mysterious.

It is clear that ‘Vyapam Scam’ has turned out to be the most ‘sinister scam’ of India. Madhya Pradesh BJP Chief Minister, Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan, however, continues to witness successive suspected deaths of 45 individuals till date and ‘parrots’ a standard line of requesting the ‘STF’ to investigate the deaths. Mechanism of SIT-STF combine has proved to be ineffective even in probing and unlocking the Vyapam Scam much less the successive deaths of now 45 people linked with Vyapam in one manner or the other. We view it as nothing but a ruse on part of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister to quieten the truth and divert attention from fair investigation.

Congress Party expresses deep condolences to the family of Dr. Arun Sharma, who died mysteriously at Delhi today as also to the family of the brave journalist, Shri Akshay Singh, who died in the line of duty yesterday. In order to arrive at the truth, all the 45 deaths must be investigated by CBI under direct supervision of Supreme Court of India and not by the existing SIT-STF. Suspicious deaths of these 45 persons are neither the subject matter of ongoing Vyapam enquiry nor part of any judicial order contrary to what has been wrongly projected by Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Our demand is aimed at ensuring that the truth is unearthed and justice is done. It should not be swept aside under the garb of charges of politicization- as is being done by certain elements.
