Congress Moves Adjournment Motion Notice to Release Political Prisoners in J&K

Congress leader and a Member of Parliament from Berhampore, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, has moved an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha on 18th March over the "demand to release political prisoners in Jammu and Kashmir".

This comes a week after the National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah's father, Farooq Abdullah, was released after being in detention for several months. The duo along with former Chief Minister of J&K and a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti, were detained right before the slashing of Art. 370 under the Public Safety Act, 1978 (PSA). The Congress party is using all legal measures to ensure that the unlawful detention of the leaders gets revoked.

At the same time, the Supreme Court on the same day asked the Jammu and Kashmir administration to apprise it if it is planning to release Omar Abdullah, 1978 or not.
