Congress Stages Protest in Parliament Demanding HM Amit Shah’s Resignation

In light of the Delhi communal riots, Congress Members of Parliament (MP’s) held a protest inside the Parliament premises demanding the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. Citing the failure of Shah in maintaining law and order in Delhi during the riots which claimed 46 lives and injured over 200 people.

Demonstrating in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue, the Congress party, with party chief Shri Rahul Gandhi along with other prominent leaders including Shri Adhir Ranjan Choudhary and Dr. Shashi Tharoor, demanded that the Home Minister take responsibility for his failures and resign with immediate effect. They raised slogans and held placards which read ‘Save Our India', 'Prime Minister Must Answer' and 'Shah Must Resign'.

Moreover, the leaders also gave adjournment notices in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, demanding a debate over the violence in Delhi. "When Delhi was burning, our home minister was playing the host in Ahmedabad. Playing a host is fine, but when Indians were being killed, that should have been the priority," Congress' leader in Lok Sabha Chowdhury said referring to the 'Namaste Trump' programme in which Shah had participated.

"There should be an investigation into the violence. The prime minister speaks after three days, the home minister does not say anything, Ajit Doval is sent to look into it, this is their failure," he told reporters outside Parliament.
