CWC meeting to discuss the ongoing Delhi violence

An emergency meeting of the Congress Workers Committee (CWC), headed by Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi  was called on 26th February at 2:00 pm at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Headquarters. The urgency of the meeting was in the backdrop of the prevailing situation in North-East Delhi where communal violence has claimed the lives of 38 people and counting.

After the meeting, Smt. Sonia Gandhi addressed a press conference and said “The conspiracy was witnessed during Delhi polls and BJP leaders gave hate speeches creating an atmosphere of fear and hatred.” Further, the Congress chief also claimed that the Centre, Home Minister (HM) and the Delhi government are responsible for the situation in the national capital and demanded that HM Amit Shah must acknowledge the situation and take responsibility, and resign.

Similarly, Congress’ chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said “Our appeal to the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Delhi chief minister is, can you rise to the occasion, leave aside your political partisanship and views, and become really not leaders of your parties but leaders of the society so that harmony, peace and non-violence prevail,” and further asked the government to carry out peace marches in Delhi.

He also added that the Congress workers will provide assistance to the government in maintaining law and order in the city.
