Congress general secretary and responsible for Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with other senior Congress leaders led a peace march from All India Congress Committee (AICC) office to Gandhi Smriti in light of the riots in Delhi. The senior leaders who joined Priyanka Gandhi included Mukul Wasnik, K.C. Venugopal, P.L. Punia, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Rajeev Gowda, Shaktisinh Gohil, Ajay Singh Lallu, Mani Shankar Aiyar, Sushmita Dev, Krishna Tirath and Subhash Chopra.
However, the march was interrupted by the police before they reached the Gandhi Smriti after which the leaders sat on the barricaded road and sang Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram.’ With the death toll rising in Delhi, the participants were dedicated to spread the message of unity and held posters reading “Aaj hamara ek hi nara, Nahin bate samaj hamara”.
