What INC Ruled States are Doing to Tackle Coronavirus

The Coronavirus pandemic has instilled fear across the globe, with the majority of countries and states under lockdown. India is currently in Phase 3 and is taking measures to tackle and prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus. While states across the country are beginning to take certain precautions to protect themselves, the states ruled by the Indian National Congress are far ahead. Let’s take a look at what each state is doing -

  1. Rajasthan
  • CM Shri. Ashok Gehlot started a RAJ. CMRF COVID-19 MITIGATION FUND (mitigation fund for coronavirus for Rajasthan) which has already received Rs 20 crore 68 lakh.
  • More than one crore families, linked to the National Food Security Act, will get free wheat till May.
  • In urban areas, families in need will get food packets. 
  • Street vendors and daily wage workers will be given free food packets as well. 
  • Food will be distributed in collaboration with the district administration municipalities. - Jaipur Police have asked people hungry to dial 100 for police to arrange and deliver meals 
  • Social security pensions will be disbursed in the first week of April.
  • Factory workers will get paid leaves during the lockdown.
  • All toll gates in Rajasthan have been closed
  • Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has warned people to adhere to the lockdown, or else he would impose curfew in the state.
  • For the poor and daily wagers, the Rajasthan CM announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1,000 crores.
  • A core group has been formed to take daily decisions, which shall visit the deprived and poor section of the society to check on their needs during the lockdown period. 
  • Raghu Sharma, health minister, said that the government was buying more masks and ventilators and creating special isolation wards at various places in case more coronavirus-affected patients are detected. 

  1. Punjab  
  • Punjab Ministers, MLAs, pledge to donate a month’s salary to CM’s relief fund - decided to make the contribution on the suggestion of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
  • IAS officers of the Punjab cadre announced that they decided to contribute their one day’s salary to the CM’s Relief Fund for helping those whose livelihood was affected as a result of the curfew imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19.
  • IPS and PPS officers have volunteered to contribute their one day’s salary to the Police Welfare Fund.
  • Imposed full curfew after people were found disobeying the lockdown. (First state to do so)
  • Initiated legal action against violators of home quarantine.
  • The Punjab Government is opting every measures including.

    • sanitization of public places.
    • creating awareness among masses.
